Frequently asked questions
How do I get started?
You can get in touch with me to book a free 20 minute, no obligation, telephone consultation. It is important, prior to committing to working together, that you get a sense of who I am and how I can help before making any decisions. For me as a professional, it is so I can gain a sense of what you are bringing and how, and if, I can help. If I am unable support you, I will always offer alternatives and signpost you to more appropriate services.
What is the cost and how can I pay?
The cost is £60 for a 50-minute session. I do offer a limited amount of concession spaces- see here for the costs. You can pay by cash or card on the day, or BACS. I ask that all sessions are paid for on the day of the session. I reserve the right to cancel an upcoming session until the previous session has been paid.
Where do sessions take place?
I offer sessions face to face in Harrogate and Leeds. I also offer online sessions. My room in Harrogate is in the town centre with free parking close by and a 5 minute walk from both the bus and train station. There is no accessible entrance unfortunately. If you have accessibility issues, please get in touch and we can explore other options. Part of my offer includes walk and talk therapy, I use green space areas in central Harrogate. I also offer walk and talk sessions in Nidderdale.
How many sessions will I need?
The length of the work is entirely dependent on your needs and what you are bringing to therapy. For some it could be a set number of sessions, for others a few months, or for some years. Some people like go use the therapy space as somewhere to check-in on an ongoing basis. There is no limit to the number of sessions you can have. That said, I understand that therapy can be a significant expense in an increasingly expensive society we live in, as a result, I do offer concession fees (see here for details about whether you meet the criteria for these and contact me to discuss whether there is a space available). I am realistic and honest with you about whether it might be short- or longer-term work once I gain a sense of what your needs and goals are. I work in a way that we will regularly review how it’s going for the best outcome for you.
What if I want to stop sessions?
Therapy can be challenging and uncomfortable for some- I would encourage you to discuss any difficulties in the session. Seeing results in therapy is not instantaneous, so it's important that you allow some time and trust the process. However, if you do want to end our sessions together, I ask for one weeks’ notice.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 48 hours’ notice for cancellations. Any cancellations made within the 48 hours will be charged at full session cost.
Why is therapy expensive?
It can seem expensive, however, it takes several years to become a therapist, in addition to the cost of the training, supervision and personal therapy as a mandatory requirement of training. The session fee per hour covers my salary and it also needs to cover:
-
Training and CPD
-
Professional registrations, including membership and regulatory bodies (BACP & UKCP)
-
Insurance, ICO registration and DBS checks
-
Room costs
-
Clinical supervision & personal therapy if required
-
Admin and marketing
-
Holiday and sick pay.
I can't afford therapy at the moment, what are the low cost and free options available to me?
I have made a list of free and low cost services local to Harrogate and Leeds here. At time of publishing this list is up to date, but changes to service availability may have occurred since I compiled this list.
